Security personnel have rescued a 19-year-old abducted girl, Hamdiyya Sidi Sharif, during a bush combing patrol along the Lambar Bakura–Yar Geda Highway in Bakura Local Government Area in Zamfara State on May 21, 2025.
Hamdiya, known for her vocal stance against insecurity in Sokoto State, had previously challenged the state government over its handling of the security crisis, particularly in the eastern part of the state, where banditry has displaced thousands and turned many villages into ghost towns.
A police source told Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency media expert, that the patrol team intercepted and rescued the victim at about 1300 hours.
Hamdiyya was immediately rushed to the hospital for a medical checkup and is currently responding to treatment.
The police said the patrol would be sustained to rescue more victims and apprehend the perpetrators.
