Seven persons have been feared dead in a night attack by suspected bandits in Tatara village, Pandan development area of Karu local government on Sunday.
The terrorists, according to an eye witness, who claimed that they are of Fulani extraction, said they are fleeing bandits who are on their heels following recent military bombardments that have dislodged scores of terrorists in nearby states of Katsina, Zamfara, and Kaduna.
The attack which started at about 10:00 pm on Saturday night claimed seven people including women in Tatara village.
An eyewitness who related the incident to our reporter said that how the terrorists invaded and carried out their operation was strange and not similar to any recent attacks being witnessed in the state.
“They came with motorbikes, well equipped and terrifying. Before we could know what was happening sporadic shooting started and the language we were hearing was Fulani dialect,” he said.
“The arms they were carrying was really sophisticated. Many people were wondering apart from the seven that died immediately.
“If not for the quick response by the security agents the whole community would have been turned into a ghost village.
“We appeal to the state government to deploy more soldiers to the community because apart from this attack we have been contending with several other criminal activities in this village, that was why when this recent attack started we thought it was the normal robbery not until we discovered late that they were trained terrorists.”
Further checks revealed that before the security arrived at the scene, seven people had been killed.
Other sources, who also confirmed the attack, noted that the community had had a vicious attack which has become part of a series of assaults that have plagued the area for some time.
However, the police said the attack was a robbery incident.
