
Sokoto State Governor, Ahmed Aliyu, has stated his administration’s commitment to investing in issues affecting children in the state.
He also assured the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF)of his administration’s determination to key into the children’s nutrition funds in the interest of children in the state.
In a statement by the Press Secretary to the Governor, Abubakar Bawa, the governor said this when he received the UNICEF’s Country Representative, Christien Muduate, who was on a courtesy visit to the governor at Government House, Sokoto.
According to the governor, the involvement of the state government in the nutrition funds is geared towards ensuring that children in the state derive maximum benefit from the funds.
“I assure you in a couple of weeks, we will make funds available for the nutrition funds,” he promised.
While commending UNICEF for its various intervention programmes on children including protecting the rights of children and preventing the spread of diseases, Aliyu restated his administration’s commitment to investing in issues affecting children in the state.
He added that the present administration has introduced several programmes to cater to the needs of the children in the areas of healthcare delivery and education, among others.
Earlier, the UNICEF Country Representative, Christien Muduate, extolled the governor over his positive efforts in the areas of education, healthcare delivery as well commitment to children’s nutrition.
According to her, the unwavering commitment exhibited by Aliyu to children’s nutrition would go a long way in ensuring that more children benefit from the programme across the state.
She, however, solicited stronger partnerships from the state government in the overall interest of children in the state.
