Task Force dismisses two officials over theft during drug raid
The Lagos State Task Force has dismissed two of its personnel, Fatai Yusuf, 42, and Hammed Garuba, 38, for stealing mobile phones during a recent operation in Gowon Estate, Lagos.
The raid, carried out at a hotel notorious for harbouring drug users and traffickers, led to several arrests. However, the integrity of the operation was undermined when the misconduct of the two officers, who served as paramilitary personnel, was captured on Closed Circuit Television (CCTV).
Chairman of the Lagos State Task Force, Adetayo Akerele, condemned their actions, reaffirming the agency’s commitment to integrity and accountability. He warned all personnel that unethical conduct would not be tolerated, stating:
“The Lagos State Task Force is guided by principles of discipline, equity, and justice. Any act that compromises the agency’s credibility or erodes public trust will be addressed decisively and without hesitation.”
Meanwhile, 53 individuals apprehended during earlier operations were remanded at the Badagry Correctional Centre after being charged in court. Last week, a subsequent raid targeting drug hotspots and illicit structures within Gowon Estate, Ipaja, led to the arrest of 43 additional suspects.
The operation also saw the demolition of identified drug hideouts and shanties as part of efforts to deter criminal activities in the area.
The Guardian learnt that all suspects were promptly arraigned, reflecting the Task Force’s continued efforts to combat drug-related crimes and ensure public safety.
