Abuja is set to become the centre of intellectual excellence and youth development, as it hosts the Season 3 Abuja Edition of The Genius Chess TV Quiz Show, one of Nigeria’s fastest-growing educational entertainment platforms dedicated to promoting chess, creativity, and intellectual development among children.

As part of its expansion, the Genius Chess TV Quiz Show successfully concluded the Season 3 Port Harcourt Edition on June 12, 2026. It was followed by the Season 3 Lagos Edition held from June 18 to June 22, 2026. Attention has now turned to Abuja, where the Season 3 Abuja Edition will hold on June 29 and 30, 2026.

The Founder of The Genius Chess TV Quiz Show, Onyedinma Ikechukwu, popularly known as Mr. Tender Chess, reflected on the remarkable growth of the initiative since its inception in 2023. He said the programme has successfully conducted four episodes across two seasons and is currently in its third season, which is witnessing an ambitious expansion into major Nigerian cities, including Port Harcourt, Lagos, and Abuja.

He said: “Chess is more than a game. It is a powerful educational tool that teaches discipline, patience, creativity, strategic thinking, and effective decision-making. These qualities are essential for raising future leaders and innovators capable of making meaningful contributions to their communities and the world.

The Abuja edition is expected to attract participants, parents, educators, chess enthusiasts, and stakeholders who share a common vision of empowering young people through intellectual development and healthy competition.

The event will provide another opportunity to showcase the transformative power of chess and reinforce its role as a valuable tool for academic and personal growth.

The competition is structured into two major stages. The first stage is the General Computer-based Chess Test, which evaluates participants’ knowledge and understanding of chess concepts. Successful contestants then advance to the Live Show, which consists of the highly competitive Elimination Round and the exciting 90-Second Spotlight Round, where participants demonstrate their speed, confidence, and mastery of chess principles before a live audience.

He noted that the impact of the programme has been significant, not only on the participants but also on schools and families. He explained that chess is now being taken more seriously in educational institutions and homes, as increasing numbers of pupils are expressing interest in participating in the competition and learning the game. He emphasized that the programme was established out of a deep passion for promoting chess education among children and nurturing a generation of young people equipped with skills that will positively influence their future and society at large.

Ikechukwu expressed confidence in the future of the initiative, revealing that the long-term vision is to expand The Genius Chess TV Quiz Show across Africa and establish it as the continent’s leading educational entertainment platform. With the growing popularity of chess around the world and the increasing acceptance of innovative learning models, he believes that the vision is well within reach.
