Three persons were killed and five others sustained varying degrees of injuries in a lone-vehicle crash at Alabebe, along the Iwo Road–Bank Oloso axis of Ibadan, Oyo State, in the early hours of yesterday.
The accident, which occurred at about 12:30 a.m., involved a Toyota Camry carrying several occupants.
Eyewitnesses said the driver lost control of the vehicle, which veered off the road and crashed into the gate of a residential building. The car also knocked down a billboard and a concrete utility pole before plunging into a roadside drainage.
The impact left the Toyota Camry mangled beyond recognition, trapping some of the occupants in the wreckage.
Emergency responders, assisted by residents, rescued the injured victims and rushed them to a nearby hospital for treatment, while the bodies of the deceased were evacuated from the scene.
As of press time, the cause of the crash had yet to be officially determined. Authorities are expected to investigate the circumstances surrounding the fatal accident.
