Three suspects apprehended with fake dollars, stolen vehicle in Yobe

The Yobe State Police Command has arrested three suspects for engaging in organised crimes and being in possession of fake dollar currencies and a stolen vehicle.

The Command’s spokesperson, SP Abdulkarim Dungus, disclosed this in a statement yesterday in Damaturu. He said: “The arrests of suspects began on August 2, 2025, at 11:00 a.m., when Maina Abdullahi, 37, of the Old Army Barracks area, Potiskum, reported to the police that a Toyota vehicle, valued at N17 million, belonged to his elder brother.”

The complainant, according to Dungus, lamented that the vehicle was forcefully snatched from him. He added: “Our investigation also indicated that the complainant had been deceived to travel to Azare, Bauchi State, with the two other suspects, Mohammed Halilu Bello, 54, of Damagum in Fune Local Council, and Mohammed Usman, 35, of Kano State.”

He explained that Bello and Usman lured the complainant under the false pretext of arranging a money-making opportunity at an undisclosed location.

On how the suspects were arrested, Dungus said: “Through our diligent investigation and intelligence tracking, the snatched vehicle was eventually recovered in Makurdi, Benue State.”

He added that other items recovered from the suspects during operations along the Potiskum–Azare–Makurdi axis included fake dollar currencies and charms.

The Commissioner of Police, Emmanuel Ado, has directed the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) to charge the three suspects in court.
