Transport firm condemns Benue bus attack, pledges support for victims’ families

Transport firm, Benue Links Nigeria Limited, has condemned the attack on one of its buses, which resulted in the abduction of 11 passengers and the driver.

In a statement issued yesterday by its information officer, Mr Johnson Ehi Daniel, the company described the incident as a reprehensible act by criminal elements.

“Benue Links Nigeria Limited strongly condemns the attack on her vehicle and passengers by criminal elements. We stand in solidarity with the families and loved ones of those affected, and we assure the public that we are actively collaborating with security agencies, who are working diligently to secure the safe return of the abducted passengers and the driver,” the statement read.

The attack occurred at about 6:30 p.m. on Sunday, June 22, 2025, at Eke Elengbecho in Okpokwu Local Council of Benue State. The bus, with registration number 14B-143BN, was travelling from Abeokuta to Makurdi.

The company reported that the bus, carrying 12 passengers and the driver, was later found abandoned by the roadside at Eke, with some passengers’ belongings left behind.

One passenger managed to escape and alerted police at Eke Police Station, reporting that armed kidnappers had ambushed the vehicle.
