The Police in Lagos on Wednesday brought two men, Paul Yusuf and Reuben Rimamnde, before an Ojo Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing iron rods.
The defendants are standing trial before Magistrate Mr Lateef Layeni, on a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing.
They pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The prosecutor, ASP Simon Uche, told the court that the defendants committed the offences on April 21, at the premises of the China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC) located at the Trade Fair complex in Ojo.
He alleged that the defendants conspired to steal 200 lengths of 10mm iron rods, valued at two million Naira, intended for road construction by the company.
According to the prosecutor, the defendants were eventually caught and arrested by the police.
The offences contravene the provisions of Sections 287 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The court granted the defendants bail in the sums of N500,000 each, with two sureties each in like sum.
He adjourned the case until July 30 for mention.
