The Ogun State Police Command has arrested one Fatai Quadri for allegedly assaulting his wife, Rukayat, during a violent domestic dispute at their residence in Illese-Ijebu.
The arrest followed the circulation of a viral video on September 15, 2025, showing the suspect repeatedly punching and inflicting injuries on his wife.
Spokesperson of the Command, CSP Omolola Odutola, confirmed the arrest in a statement issued in Abeokuta at the weekend.
She said operatives of the Igbeba Divisional Police Headquarters, Ijebu Ode, swung into action immediately after the video surfaced and apprehended the suspect.
“The suspect, who was seen inflicting fist blows on the victim, resulting in bodily harm, was promptly apprehended by operatives of the Igbeba Divisional Police Headquarters, Ijebu Ode,” Odutola stated.
She explained that preliminary investigations indicated the assault stemmed from allegations of infidelity.
Further findings revealed that the suspect had transferred ownership of a 10-room en-suite apartment, jointly built with his wife, to another woman, which provoked the violent attack.
The victim is currently receiving medical treatment, while the suspect remains in custody and will be charged in court after investigations are concluded.
Commissioner of Police, Lanre Ogunlowo, reiterated the Command’s zero tolerance for domestic violence, warning that anyone found culpable would face the full weight of the law.
He urged members of the public, especially victims of domestic violence, to report all cases promptly, stressing that silence empowers perpetrators while timely reporting ensures protection and justice.
