A woman has died in a road accident on the Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos, while her 30-year-old daughter survived the crash.
The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA)) said the accident occurred yesterday at the Ilaje inward Iyana Oworo axis and involved a head-on collision between two Toyota Sienna vehicles with registration numbers LSR 809 GV and LSR 695 HM.
According to the agency, its officials responded swiftly after receiving a distress call, secured the scene and managed traffic to prevent further incidents. Officers from the Oworonsoki Police Division were also deployed to document the accident and commence investigations.
The deceased, identified as a mother travelling in one of the vehicles, was confirmed dead at the scene, while her daughter, who was in the same vehicle, survived.
Authorities said one of the drivers fled the scene, while the other was apprehended by LASTMA officials and handed over to the police.
The victim’s body has been evacuated, and normal traffic flow has been restored in the area.
LASTMA General Manager, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, warned motorists against reckless driving, particularly speeding, and urged strict adherence to traffic regulations to prevent avoidable tragedies.
