He alleged that an officer of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS), Awkuzu, in Oyi Local Council, is planning to implicate him falsely.
Speaking to journalists in Awka, Nwokoye claimed that a Superintendent of Police had devised a scheme to bury a body on a piece of land currently under dispute between his community and the neighbouring Umuzuocha Community.
Furthermore, Nwokoye recently filed a N20 million lawsuit against the officer in the Awka High Court for allegedly arresting and detaining him unlawfully on September 4, 2024, in connection with the land dispute.
In a statement, Nwokoye also alleged that the officer accused youths in his community of killing people and burying them on their land.
He has appealed to the state’s Commissioner of Police and the public to intervene and protect his life.
Nwokoye, currently receiving treatment and recuperating in hospital recounted his ordeal at the hands of the officer.
He claimed the officer threatened to kill him, alleging that the community had been killing people and burying them on the disputed land.
The officer allegedly further stated that if no graves were found, he would kill someone and bury the body there, and the community’s youth would be held accountable.
Nwokoye also alleged that at the RRS station in Awkuzu, an AK-47 rifle was forcefully hung around his neck, and photographs were taken.
A community leader in Ezinano, Chief Arinze Ekelem Ekelem, expressed shock at the allegations and described Nwokoye as a patriotic community member.
When contacted, the police spokesperson, Ikenga Tochukwu, said no such matter was reported to the station.
He said: “Please, let’s be professional and advise the accuser to come forward because I suspect that this is a means to evade justice and distract police investigation.”
