Yaya Bauchi, representing Kwami/Funakaye constituency of Gombe State in the House of Representatives, and about 11,000 other All Progressives Congress (APC) members have defected to the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Bauchi, in his resignation letter, which leaked yesterday, cited the internal crisis bedeviling the party for his decision.

He also accused the party leadership of sidelining founding members in the recent congresses, which has become controversial, adding that no resolution seemed to be on sight.

“This decision of mine was taken after a careful observation of the numerous crises in the APC in our state without any resolution in sight. All efforts made by well-meaning members of APC for a peaceful resolution of the crises continue to meet brickwalls, as some individuals have hijacked all party machineries and have consistently refused some of us space to actively contribute to the development of the party in the state,” he disclosed.

A PDP chieftain, who represented the area in the the green chamber from 2007 to 2011, Abubakar Abubakar, who received the defectors, told newsmen that their defection was due to neglect by the APC after working for its victory in the 2019 election.
