Police arrest two suspected drug peddler, four kidnappers

Operatives of Quick Response Team of Delta State Police Command have arrested two suspected drug peddlers at a blackspot, opposite Army checkpoint, Warri.

The police spokesman in the state, DSP Bright Edafe, who confirmed the incident on Tuesday, gave the names of the suspects as Samaila Abubakar, 20 and Haashimu Aiki, 16.

Edafe stated that at around 4:40a.m. on April 15, based on intelligence, the DPO of ‘A’ division, Warri, CSP T.Y. Mahmud, led the Quick Response Team to the black spot opposite, Army checkpoint, where the duo were arrested with 80 wraps of skunkweed, 28 pieces of Tramadol, six tablet of Cwion, 15 packs of Tygra 200mg, 12 packs of blue Vega, 41 of red Vega, and one pack of Rislar.

“Both suspects have been giving vital information that will lead to the arrest of various illicit drug dealers in the area,” he added. .

The police spokesman also revealed that following a tipoff, policemen from ‘A’ Division, Warri, arrested Onyeka Henry of Dore Street, Warri. On interrogation, he allegedly confessed that he was a drug baron,

The suspect, who was arrested on April 16, 2021, according to Edafe, had since claimed to have “left the illicit drug business, knowing full well that it was time to call it quit, and turn a new leaf.”

Meanwhile, the state police command had raided suspected criminal hideouts across Delta. Its efforts paid off as four kidnapped victims were rescued and two of the abductors nabbed with dangerous weapons.

Edafe, while giving a breakdown of successes recorded by the command, said: “On April 19, at around 3.32am, DPO Oghara Division, CSP Jimoh Hassan, got a distress call that Mr Solomon Otomierewo of Ibori road, Oghara, and his girlfriend, Rukewe Urhiephroune, were kidnapped by four armed men.

“The kidnappers reportedly blocked their victim’s unregistered Mercedes GLK car and took them to the bush, on the Koko Road, but following information, the DPO swiftly mobilised patrol teams, vigilantes and anti-cult personnel to the bush where the kidnappers kept the victims.

“The kidnappers, on sighting the headlights of the police patrol vehicles, ran to different directions and abandoned the victims.

“The police were able to rescue the victims unhurt and recovered the victims’ Mercedes Benz GLK traced to Oviore, near Isiokolo in Ethiope East Council of the state.”

Edafe said that two of the suspected kidnappers, Oghenetewhe and Gift, were arrested with the assistance of the army.

“Sequel to a tip off on the previous day, some hoodlums suspected to be kidnappers were operating along Ogor-Ivwreni Road. The DPO, ‘A’ Division, Ughelli, mobilized and led patrol teams to the scene. They rescued two victims, Ovwenu Augustine and Victor Orogunu, who sustained gunshot injuries on his right leg. The police rushed them to the hospital for treatment.”
