Rivers NUJ celebrates Ann Godwin
Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Rivers Council has celebrated The Guardian correspondent, Ann Godwin, for winning Wole Soyinka Award on Leadership.
The Council, in a statement signed by its Secretary, Ike Wigodo, said the Union was proud that one of its members won the coveted award in journalism.
According to the statement, “The Wole Soyinka Journalism Award in Leadership is not a run-of-the-mill award that can be clinched so easily. It is an award that requires high professionalism, competence and resourcefulness to win. That one of us in Rivers NUJ, Ann Godwin, won the prestigious award is a good testimonial to our preference for investigative journalism.”
The Union said it was not surprised that Godwin won the award given her brilliance and exceptional commitment to the growth of journalism in the state.
The statement noted that Mrs. Godwin’s pet project ‘Step Up Media Network’ has raised the bar for female journalists in the state through well thought-out training programmes.
“We, therefore, congratulate Mrs Ann Godwin and The Guardian newspaper for achieving this uncommon feat.
“Rivers State council is proud of your outstanding qualities in investigative journalism, which marks you out for distinction. As a union, we look forward to more journalists in Rivers State winning more trophies for their media and our council,” the statement added.
