Sule swears in 15 new commissioners in Nasarawa

Gov. Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State on Friday swore in 15 new commissioners as members of the State Executive Council.

Sule, while performing the ceremony in Lafia, urged the new commissioners to avoid all corrupt tendencies while discharging their duties.

He said that his administration was anchored on accountability, transparency and prudent management of resources and would not tolerate corrupt tendencies.

The governor said the appointments of the commissioners were made after wide consultation with stakeholders across the state.

While congratulating the appointees, he said that their appointments were well deserved and wished them well in their new assignment.

Sule charged the commissioners to be dedicated and result oriented in their duties.

“I urge all of you to avoid all corrupt tendencies while discharging your duties,” he said.

The governor restated his administration’s continued commitment to key into different policies and programmes that would have direct bearing on the lives of the people of the state.

The governor, however, said that the State House of Assembly had screened and confirmed 16 commissioner nominees but one of the nominees could not participate in the event due to some unspecified reasons.

The new commissioners and their portfolios are Mr Yakubu Kwanta (Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development); Mr Tanko Tunga (Commissioner for Land and Urban Development); and Hajiya Munirat Abdullahi (Commissioner for Finance and Budget).

Others are Mr Gabriel Agbashi (Commissioner for Science and Technology); Mr Isaac Danladi Amadu (Commissioner for Environment); Dr Ibrahim Tanko (Commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism); while Dr John Mamman is Commissioner for Education.

Also appointed are Mr Aminu Maifata (Commissioner for Local Government, Community Development and Chieftaincy Affairs); CP Usman Baba (Rtd.) (Commissioner for Security and Sundry Matters); Mr Mohammed Sani-Ottos (Commissioner for Commerce and Trade); and Mr Mohammed Agah-Muluku (Commissioner for Water Resources and Rural Development).

They also include Mr David Moyi (Commissioner for Special Duties and Legal Matters); Dr Gaza Gwamna (Commissioner for Health); Mr Judbo Hauwa-Samuel (Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice); and Muazu Gosho (Commissioner for Works, Housing and Transport).

Earlier, Dr Labaran Magaji, Secretary to the State Government, commended the governor for his developmental strides and purposeful leadership in the state.

Responding on behalf of the newly sworn-in commissioners, Hajiya Munirat Abdullahi, the Commissioner for Finance and Budget, appreciated Gov. Sule for finding them worthy of the appointments.

She pledged their readiness to discharging their duties as commissioners.
