Vigilante arrests illegal drug merchants, manhole thief

The Obio/Akpor Vigilante, known as the Security Planning Advisory Committee (OSPAC), has made a series of arrests, demonstrating its commitment to combating criminal activities in the council.

According to the General Commander of OSPAC, Obidike Nwokohu, a recent operation on February 16, 2025, led to the interception of a waste bin truck carrying illicit substances, including tramadol and codeine.

The suspects, posing as waste management personnel, were apprehended, and the seized drugs were cataloged as evidence.

In another incident, the OSPAC team arrested a man identified as Chukwuemeka George from Abia State for allegedly stealing a manhole at the Rumuokoro flyover.

George confessed to engaging in various criminal activities, such as theft of car batteries and burglary.

Obidike stressed OSPAC’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding residents, reiterating that Obio/Akpor remains a secure haven for all law-abiding individuals.

He urged the public to report any security concerns to OSPAC, highlighting its collaborative efforts with other law enforcement agencies to combat crime effectively.

He noted that the suspects would be handed over to law enforcement agencies for discreet investigation.
