President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his wife, Senator Oluremi, would surely enjoy the support of Nigerian students due to the introduction of the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) and the completion of the National Library project.
The Supreme Leader of the Natives, Hon. Olalekan Smart Edwards, gave the assurance on Tuesday in Abuja during the unveiling of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) national iconic magazine.
Edwards, who was honored for his long-standing support for the well-being of students, maintained that the aforementioned initiatives would have a lasting impact on future generations of Nigerians in the years ahead.
He insisted that the Tinubu-led administration deserves the support of Nigerians as they celebrate the 65th independence anniversary tomorrow.
“Please quote me again, that education once given cannot be taken away from you. The husband (Tinubu) has opened up a policy and the policy is changing lives and giving students the opportunity to go to school. And the wife has decided to set up a library to give and add more to education,” he said.
“That’s why on behalf of our organization, we decided that I contribute and they donate it to the library project. For that, you can already know there’s no controversy, Bola Ahmed Tinubu should get the student vote. It’s no controversy.”
Continuing, he noted: “The people handling the finances of the country have turned the economy around. They’re well-read. There are people who understand the dynamics, hard decisions, hard times, and the economy is taking shape. What I’m saying to you is that all over the world, they say you can deny people education so that you can impoverish them.
“These people have shown clearly that they are ready to invest in the lives of youths, of children, of families, and leave it as a legacy for all. So I am informing you that 65 years of Nigeria’s independence, the whole story will be for us the investment in education right before our eyes.
“Everybody has been calling for 26%, 10% investment in education, quality education. But you are looking at universities not going on strike. You are looking at students going to school. You are looking at families being happy that their children are going to be educated. If that is their only form of hope, then hope is being renewed. So I assure you, the time will come for us, when as Natives we will give a vote of confidence on this President and the parliament led by Senator Godswill Obot Akpabio and Tajudeen Abbas.”
Edwards launched the magazine with N6 million on behalf of the Natives, whose membership is drawn from various ethnic nationalities across the country.
NANS National Secretary, Comrade Anzaku Shedrak Ovye, explained that the decision to honour Edwards was in recognition of his immense contribution to the well-being of students over the years.
He cited the empowerment of over 1,500 youths by the Natives with the sum of N250,000 each as start-up capital for various trades and vocations in the country.
