Professor Olusanya Olubusoye of the Department of Statistics, University of Ibadan (UI), on Wednesday, said the Independence anniversary speech of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu inspired optimism and trust.

Olubusoye stated this after analysing the speech under the platform of the University of Ibadan Laboratory for Interdisciplinary Statistical Analysis (UI-LISA).

The professor said: “The 64th Independence Anniversary address by His Excellency President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, delivered on October 1, 2024, presented a comprehensive overview of Nigeria’s journey, progress, and future aspirations.

“The University of Ibadan Laboratory for Interdisciplinary Statistical Analysis (UI-LISA) conducted a thorough sentiment and topic analysis of the speech.

“President Tinubu’s speech carried an overarching tone of optimism and trust, designed to reassure Nigerians of the government’s unwavering commitment to addressing the country’s economic, social, and security challenges.

“On positive sentiments and trust, the speech was laden with phrases such as “better days ahead”, “light at the end of the tunnel”, and “building a brighter future”, signifying the President’s confidence in Nigeria’s ability to overcome its current challenges.

“On anticipation and hope, the President highlighted the ongoing reforms and their expected outcomes, particularly in stabilising the economy and fostering national unity.

“On negative sentiments, although the speech acknowledged Nigeria’s current difficulties, including references to “suffering”, “struggles”, “terrorism”, and the “high cost of living”, these were balanced with promises of progress and security improvements, reinforcing hope for a brighter future.

“The analysis of President Tinubu’s address demonstrates a balanced narrative, acknowledging the hardships faced by the nation while also painting a hopeful picture of the future.

“The President’s speech reflects his administration’s focus on long-term solutions, ranging from economic reforms to youth empowerment, agriculture, security, and energy.

“With continued commitment and the ongoing implementation of these reforms, Nigeria is on the path toward achieving stability, growth, and prosperity.”
