Nigerian Army confirms Brig-Gen. Sani Usman’s reappointment as spokesperson
As Brig-Gen. Texas Chukwu proceeds To NIPSS
The Nigerian Army, yesterday, confirmed the reappointment of Brig-Gen. Sani Usman as the Director of Army Public Relations (DAPR). This is his second stint in the position.
This is following Usman’s completion of the strategic course at the National Institute of Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Kuru, near Jos, Plateau State. Nigerian Army Directorate of Public Relations had in a statement said the new appointment also came on the heels former spokesperson, Brig-Gen. Texas Chukwu, proceeding to NIPSS for a study.
It also clarified that contrary to reports that Chukwu was sacked, the senior officers only proceeded to a retinue study leave and was naturally replaced by Usman, who also happened to be his predecessor in both DAPR and NIPSS.
Part of the statement read: “The Directorate wishes to state categorically that the report is not only malicious, but also an attempt to tarnish the reputation of the senior officer, which he has built over the years in the course of his career, as well as misleading members of the public.
“The write-up further alleged that his removal followed outcry from different quarters on his “inability” to manage information on counter-insurgency campaign, which is completely untrue and unsubstantiated.”It requested the publishers of the story to tender an unreserved apology to the senior officer as well as the Directorate through the same medium within 24 hours or be ready to face legal action.
