The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Caucus in the House of Representatives has urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to review his policies, insisting that Nigerians deserve better governance.
Leader of the Caucus, Hon. Fred Agbedi, speaking after an emergency meeting in Abuja, faulted the President’s decision to embark on a foreign trip to Brazil amid ongoing killings in Zamfara and other parts of the country by terrorists and bandits.
He described the move as “insensitive,” stressing that the APC-led administration has failed to prioritize the safety and welfare of Nigerians.
At the meeting, the caucus also congratulated Ambassador Umar Iliya Damagun on his emergence as the substantive National Chairman of the PDP after years in acting capacity.
Agbedi commended the National Executive Committee (NEC) for conducting a peaceful exercise, adding that the development reaffirms the party’s commitment to due process and internal democracy.
The lawmakers further accused the Tinubu administration of undermining democratic institutions in Osun State, calling for the immediate release of local government funds in line with a valid court judgment.
“It is anti-democratic for President Tinubu to hold the local government funds of Osun State to ransom. We insist that the right thing must be done, court judgments obeyed, and due process followed,” Agbedi said.
On insecurity, the caucus lamented the spate of killings across the country, noting that a government unable to protect its people is unfit to remain in office
“Over 10,000 Nigerians have been killed in less than two years. People are groaning under hardship, and many are committing suicide due to government neglect. Nigerians deserve better,” Agbedi added.
The lawmakers accused the APC government of plunging citizens into economic hardship while failing to pay indigenous contractors who have continued to protest non-payment. They vowed to pressure the government to settle outstanding debts owed to Nigerian contractors.
They also pledged to keep the administration accountable.
“As a caucus, we will continue to put this government on its toes, expose its illegalities, and ensure that laws that support good governance are enacted. Nigerians must insist on good governance and prepare to vote out the APC in 2027,” Agbedi declared.
