Nigeria has strengthened its influence in continental law enforcement following the election of Commissioner of Police Olubode Ojajuni to the INTERPOL Africa Committee during the 27th African Regional Conference in Cape Town, South Africa.
The election, confirmed in a statement by the Nigeria Police Force spokesperson, DCP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, on Friday, awards Nigeria the fifth seat on the committee for a two-year tenure.
The INTERPOL Africa Committee plays a crucial role in advising the African Regional Conference on strategic priorities, facilitating sessions, and promoting cross-border police cooperation. The committee also identifies emerging crime threats, advances best practices, and implements projects to enhance security across the continent.
“This achievement reflects Nigeria’s growing influence and leadership in global law enforcement matters, particularly in the fight against transnational crime, terrorism, and other emerging threats,” the Force statement said.
Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, congratulated Ojajuni, stressing the Nigeria Police’s commitment to professionalism and international collaboration.
“The Nigeria Police will sustain active engagement with global partners to promote peace and security worldwide,” he stated.
Ojajuni, a former Lagos State Police Command Public Relations Officer, brings extensive experience to the committee, having previously served as Deputy Commissioner in charge of the State Criminal Investigation Department in Ogun State and as Principal Officer 3 to former IGP Ibrahim Idris. In March 2025, he was among 66 senior officers promoted by the Police Service Commission.
