NLC counters Taraba gov’s claim of not owing workers

Governor of Taraba, Darius Dickson Ishaku

Taraba State chapter of Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) has debunked claims by Governor Darius Ishaku that he is not owing any group of workers in the state monthly salaries.

The governor, through his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Bala Dan Abu, stated recently: “The outgoing administration of Governor Darius Ishaku, of Taraba State is not owing any group of workers in the state monthly salaries and, therefore, will not be leaving behind any burden arising from unpaid emoluments for the in-coming administration.”

The clarification, according to Ishaku, became necessary following a statement issued recently on behalf of the incoming administration of Lt-Col. Agbu Kefas, promising to pay salary arrears in its first 100 days.

But the NLC Chairman in Taraba, Peter Jediel, described the claim as false, stating that local council workers were still cap in hand seeking livelihood due to unpaid salaries.
