NMA urges government to add HE in school curriculum
Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), Edo State branch, has called on government to incorporate health education into basic school curriculum to enable pupils learn about their health conditions from early age.
The chairman, Dr. Valentine Omoifo, a consultant haematologist, stated this yesterday in Benin City, as the world observed Sickle Cell Day, recognised by United Nations to raise awareness on the condition.
Omoifo urged governments to invest more in the training of specialist doctors for the management of sickle cell patients.
“Why sickle cell disease is important for us as an association is the need for enlightenment of the general public about it.”
“People are supposed to know their genotype. Our aim is to try and curtail this disease as much as possible because of the numerous complications it can cause.”
