The outreach, which will commence on Monday, will provide medical consultations, dental and eye care, wellness counselling, health education, and minor surgical procedures to an estimated 4,500 residents in Umuechem, Igwuruta, Mgbodo-Alu, Eneka, Rumukurishi, Oyigbo, Iriebe, Umuebulu, Umuokwa, Odagwa, Egwi, Elelewon, Ozuoba, and Rumuigbo.

Speaking ahead of the flag-off in Umuechem, Chairman of the HCDT Board of Trustees, His Royal Majesty, King Dr. Samuel Amaechi, said the initiative reflects the Trust’s commitment to improving the health and well-being of its host communities.

“This medical outreach is a clear demonstration of our commitment to the well-being of our people. We recognize that no community can thrive without access to basic healthcare. Through this initiative, the HCDT is not only meeting immediate health needs but also reaffirming its role as a responsive and compassionate development institution. We are grateful to our partners, the NNPC and Heirs Energies, for their support in making this vision a reality.” he said.

The outreach forms part of the Trust’s broader strategy to implement sustainable, community-focused development programmes aligned with the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA) 2021 and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Medical personnel, including doctors, nurses, pharmacists, optometrists, surgeons, and dentists—have been deployed across the participating communities, working in coordination with local volunteers and community leaders to ensure effective delivery of services.

The NNPC/Heirs Energies JV OML 17 Host Communities Development Trust is a statutory platform established under the PIA to drive inclusive development and economic empowerment in oil-producing areas. Representing 73 communities, it is reputed to be the largest HCDT in Nigeria’s oil and gas sector.

According to the Trust, its programmes are anchored on transparency, participation, and long-term value creation aimed at improving lives today and for future generations.
