Lagos State government has warned organisers of charity activities and events in Lagos should not turn tragic saying if, such organisers would be tried for criminal offence.

Lagos State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr Gbenga Omotoso, stated this on Sunday, during a press briefing to underscored the importance of organisers of events where over 250 participants are expected to register with the Lagos State Safety Commission.

Omotoso stated that Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu is not happy with the tragic news from charity efforts and so would not want such tragic occurrences in Lagos.

He stated that no matter the kind of event, the organisers need to consult the state Safety commission, disclosing that all the emergency agencies have been activated to ensure that no tragic incident happens in Lagos.

Also Commissioner for Special Duties and Intergovernmental Relations, Gbenga Oyerinde, implored Lagos residents to be their brothers’ keep by reporting any incidents to could likely turn tragic to the state government.

He said they should call the state toll-free lines to report for government to take necessary actions.

“Lagos residents should know that we are serious about this and when residents see any acts that poses threat to safety, they should cry out and alert the necessary agencies,” Oyerinde stated.
The Director, Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Mrs Margaret Adeseye, implored residents to be safety conscious by not storing inflamable items especially this period of harmattan.

She noted that harmattan only aids not the cause of fire incidents.

She also stated that the use of fire works should be totally discouraged at this period, warning traders not to warehouse fireworks without appropriate safety measures.

She revealed that 1749 fire incidents have been recorded so far in 2024, with 75 per cent of the fire incidents due to carelessness and human error.
