The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Ambrose Alli University (AAU), Ekpoma Chapter, yesterday said that there was no ASUU splinter group known as Congress of University Academics (CONUA) in the institution.

It insisted that all academic members staff of the university are solid members of ASUU.Chairman, ASUU AAU Chapter, Monday Lewis Igbafen and Secretary, Anthony Aigogun Aizebioje Coker, in a statement jointly signed after a special congress meeting held at the institution to review the report in some sections of the media suggesting that there is in existence in ASUU a splinter group known as CONUA, said that the said press reports were misleading and did not reflect the position on ground at the university.

According to Igbafen, “After an exhaustive discussion of the report, the congress of ASUU AAU, Ekpoma Chapter, observed that the said press reports are misleading and do not reflect the position on ground at AAU.”He added that the two persons identified as promoters of the so-called CONUA were on suspension from the union for transgression against the union’s rules and ethics.

Igbafen and Aizebioje said that the congress moved and submitted categorically that aside from the two persons, no other academic members of staff in AAU belong to CONUA, adding that the academic members of staff of Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, are solid members of ASUU.
