Veteran Nollywood actor, filmmaker and public commentator, Ugezu J. Ugezu has publicly apologised to Prince Daniel Kanu and withdrawn statements he previously made about him on social media.

In a statement issued on June 22, 2026, and posted on his Facebook page, Ugezu said he had reviewed the matter and concluded that certain assertions he made concerning Kanu should not have been published.

According to the actor, he no longer maintains the claims and acknowledges that he lacks credible evidence to support them.

“Upon a careful review of the matter, I have come to the conclusion that I made assertions which I ought not to have made,” Ugezu said.

“I have since discovered that I do not possess any credible evidence to support those assertions, and I acknowledge that making them was wrong.”

The filmmaker accepted full responsibility for the publication, noting that as a writer, actor and public commentator, he understands the influence that public statements can have on reputation and public perception.

He further expressed regret for any distress, embarrassment, inconvenience or reputational harm the publication may have caused Kanu, his family, associates and supporters.

Ugezu announced that he was withdrawing and retracting the statements in their entirety, stating that he had no basis for maintaining them.

Addressing Kanu directly, the actor offered what he described as a sincere and unreserved apology.

“That was never my intention, but I recognise that intentions do not erase consequences, and for that reason I am deeply sorry,” he said.

He also apologised to members of the public who may have been misled by the publication and pledged to exercise greater diligence in verifying information before making public comments in the future.

The development highlights the growing importance of accuracy, verification and responsible communication in an era where statements made on social media can rapidly influence public opinion and reputations.

The apology comes as public scrutiny continues to grow over the responsibility of public figures, content creators, and commentators to ensure that information shared online is properly verified before publication, particularly when it concerns matters that could affect an individual’s reputation.
