The Northern Senators Forum (NSF) has paid glowing tribute to former President Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida, GCFR, describing him as a statesman whose vision and bold leadership helped shape modern Nigeria.
Marking his 84th birthday, the forum said Babangida is remembered not only as a soldier and leader but as an architect of change who guided the country through one of its most defining transitions.
Chairman of the forum, Sen. Abdulaziz Musa Yar’adua, in a statement on Monday, indicated.
“President Babangida’s years in office (1985–1993) were marked by ambitious economic reforms and infrastructural investments that left a lasting imprint on Nigeria’s growth,” the forum said. “His administration also oversaw the nation’s delicate journey towards civilian governance, a turning point in our political history.”
The senators further noted that beyond domestic achievements, IBB strengthened Nigeria’s voice abroad, deepening the country’s diplomatic standing across Africa and on the global stage.
“As we celebrate his 84th birthday, we honour his immense contributions to Nigeria’s development and acknowledge his enduring legacy as a leader who shaped the direction of our nation,” the statement added.
The forum, on behalf of its members and millions of Nigerians, wished the elder statesman good health, peace, and fulfilment in his twilight years.
