Northern youths reject Buhari’s INEC nominees

AREWA Youth Consultative Forum (AYCF) has asked President Muhammadu Buhari to replace the list of Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) nominees he sent to the Senate.

The Northern youths faulted the President’s list and the plan to remove credible INEC officials, who should have been enlisted for the 2023 general elections.

President of AYCF, Yerima Shettima, stated, yesterday: “If the President fails to review the list of nominees for INEC and make changes, the clear message is that serving your country with integrity and honesty doesn’t matter anymore.

“The list does not command public confidence because the nominees are establishment and largely partisan proxy nominees, a trend that Nigerian electoral history was forced to retreat from after the 2007 general election.”
