The National Population Commission (NPC) has commenced a trial census with field works in six states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.

The exercise is slated to hold for two weeks and is billed to end on July 30, 2022, in the selected Enumeration Areas (EAs) and Local Government Areas (LGAs) in the states and territory.

The trial census tagged: “Census Dress Rehearsal,” is a pre-census limited activity to evaluate all aspects of the census operations before the 2023 national headcount.

NPC Director of Public Affairs, Isiaka Yahaya, stated, yesterday, in Maiduguri that during the trials, all census operations are tested in detailed and comprehensive ways.

He said that this is to fully assess the level of preparedness of the commission to conduct the 2023 Population and Housing Census.

According to him, the two-week trial census shall cover 7, 681 EAs in the 36 States and the FCT.

Yahaya, who added that six LGAs have been selected from the six selected states, from the six geo-political zones, explained that this could enable the Commission to conduct a full population enumeration, in 45 EAs of nine LGAs cutting across three senatorial districts.

“Nine council areas were selected from each of the states and the FCT for enumeration,” he said, adding that the trial census fieldwork includes, building numbering, and household listing from July 13 to 15, 2022.

While the validation of the EA frame, he added, began from July 16 to 18, 2022, the persons’ enumeration will hold from July 19 to 25, 2022.
