Operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Niger State Command, have arrested two suspects for vandalising cables at the Niger Farm in Bida Local Council of the state.
In a statement yesterday, the newly posted Commandant of the Corps in the state, Adamu Abdullahi Kambara, confirmed the development, saying they were arrested during a routine patrol along the farm.
According to him, the suspected vandals are currently in the detention facility of the NSCDC headquarters in Minna, although their identities are being withheld pending further investigation. He stressed that preliminary investigations indicated that the two were involved in the destruction of critical aluminium cables, which disrupted farm operations.
The Commandant assured the public that a thorough investigation is underway to unravel the circumstances surrounding the incident. He also stressed that under his watch, the command would make Niger State uninhabitable for criminal elements.
He said: “Criminal elements and vandals of critical national assets in Niger State should, in their interest, relocate from the state. I will continue to launch a total onslaught against them until I chase them out. They should desist from their criminal activities forthwith or be prepared to face the full wrath of the law.”
Kambara emphasised that the command will leave no stone unturned in ensuring that those responsible for the act are brought to justice, warning that vandalism of critical infrastructure will not be tolerated. He added that the command would continue to collaborate with other state security agencies to protect critical national assets and infrastructure.
