The national leaderships of the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) and Petroleum Tanker Drivers (PTD) have placed members on alert over the alleged threat by the Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige to proscribe the union.

The move, the unionists claimed followed the purported unfriendliness of the minister in recent times to organised labour, especially the alleged attacks on workers’ peaceful rallies and alleged opposition to picketing of places believed to have his sympathy.

They also cited the non-inauguration of Frank Ovie-Kokori as board chairman of the Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF) as another of his misgiving.
