Nwodo is new Ohanaeze president general

Former Minister of Information, Chief John Nwodo was yesterday evening in Enugu elected the president general of Ohanaeze Ndigbo in a keenly contested election.

Former Minister of Information, Chief John Nwodo was yesterday evening in Enugu elected the president general of Ohanaeze Ndigbo in a keenly contested election.

Nwodo secured 242 votes to beat his closest rival and pioneer Vice Chancellor of the Anambra State University of Science and Technology, Prof. Ejike Chiweyite, who scored 13 votes. There were six void votes.

Two other contestants, Dr. Simeon Ortuanya and Chief Joel Ezeugwu had withdrawn, while former chief of naval staff, Rear Admiral Allison Madueke (rtd) neither appeared for screening nor was present at the election.

A former Deputy Inspector General of Police, Hillary Okpara from Imo State was returned unopposed, as deputy president general while Uche Okwukwu, a lawyer from Rivers State became the secretary general with 166 votes. He beat Isaac Nwonwu who scored 63 votes.

Emeka Ogwu beat Emma Okocha to the position of treasurer.
