A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Iliyasu Musa Kwankwaso, has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu over the reported arrest of suspects linked to the abduction of National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members, describing the development as a boost to public confidence in the country’s security architecture.
Kwankwaso, in a statement made available to the media on Saturday, said the reported arrests demonstrated the administration’s determination to track down and bring to justice those responsible for criminal activities threatening the safety of Nigerians.
He said the incident underscored the need for sustained efforts to protect citizens, particularly young Nigerians participating in the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) scheme.
According to him, the government’s response sends a message that kidnapping and other violent crimes will not be allowed to go unchallenged.
Kwankwaso described the NYSC as an important instrument of national integration, bringing young Nigerians from different parts of the country together to serve the nation.
He said corps members deserved adequate protection, adding that attacks on them raised concerns about the safety of young people undertaking national service.
The APC chieftain noted that public confidence in security institutions could be strengthened when security agencies respond promptly to criminal incidents and demonstrate the capacity to identify and apprehend suspected perpetrators.
He added that the arrest of suspects, where followed by thorough investigation and prosecution, could help advance justice and deter others from engaging in similar crimes.
Kwankwaso also commended the security agencies involved in the operation, urging them to sustain intelligence-driven efforts to dismantle kidnapping networks and prevent further attacks.
He said the reported development aligned with the Tinubu administration’s stated commitment to strengthening national security and creating an environment where Nigerians could go about their lawful activities without fear.
The APC stalwart urged Nigerians to support security agencies by providing timely and credible information that could assist investigations and help prevent criminal activities.
He stressed that tackling kidnapping and other violent crimes required effective collaboration between security agencies and local communities.
Kwankwaso expressed optimism that sustained coordination, improved intelligence gathering and decisive action against criminal suspects would strengthen public trust in the country’s security institutions.
