Obaseki tasks Nigerians on support for civil rule
Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki yesterday charged Nigerians on the need to continuously support the nation’s effort at deepening democratic values.
He stated this during 2019 Democracy Day Celebration in Benin City, where he noted that the state government would continue to extend democratic dividends to the greatest number people.
Obaseki, who commended President Muhammadu Buhari for recognising June 12 as the nation’s Democracy Day in honour of the late M.K.O. Abiola, ask Edo people to deepen democracy and ensure that the people are major stakeholders in governance.
But state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) said the celebration of Democracy Day was uncalled for, citing escalating insecurity and lack of basic infrastructure in the country.
Chairman of the state PDP, Chief Dan Orbih, said Nigerians were observing the day without celebrating any socio-economic and political achievements.
