Obigwe warns NLC against meddling in Abia chapter
Chairman of Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Abia State chapter, Uchenna Obigwe, has warned the national leadership of the union not to interfere in his office.
Obigwe gave the warning, yesterday, while addressing journalists in Umuahia on the verdict of the National Industrial Court (NIC), Owerri Division, on a suit he filed against the NLC, Ayuba Wabba (President), Emmanuel Ugboaja (Secretary) and affiliate unions.
He said the court’s verdict was pronounced on Wednesday, October 13, 2021.
According to the judgment Obigwe distributed to journalists, the court presided over by Justice Ibrahim Galadima ordered that the status quo as of October 13, 2021 be maintained until final determination of the suit.
“Any disobedience of this order shall amount to contempt. This matter is placed on this court’s accelerated list and adjourned till November 4, 2021 for cross examination and possible defence,” it added.
Obigwe said he instituted the suit sequel to NLC’s decision to remove him prematurely from office, as the NLC’s constitution has no provision for its national leadership to remove any elected chairman.
He reportedly wrote Governor Okezie Ikpeazu about the development.
