A former member of House of Representatives, Mr Lanre Odubote, who represented Epe Federal Constituency in Lagos State, has appealed to traditional rulers in Yoruba land and other critical stakeholders, to support the presidential aspiration of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2023 General elections.

In a similar vein, National Youths Leader,  APC-USA, a Diaspora support group for the ruling party, Oyakhilome Bello, said the presidential candidate of APC has paid the necessary price in terms of democratic governance, to rule the country.

Bello, who responded to questions via WhatsApp messages, said, “The Diaspora support group is backing Tinubu because of his track political records during the struggle for democracy in the 1990s and how the former governor was able to transform Lagos State from 1999 to 2007.”

Odubote, who spoke with The Guardian Newspapers on telephone, said the national leader of APC is the only presidential candidate among the four major contestants, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Mr. Peter Obi of Labour Party (LP) and Rabiu Kwankwaso of New Nigerian People’s Party (NNPP), with the necessary political prerequisite to take Nigeria out of the present mess.

According to Odubote,  “Tinubu can replicate how he addressed insecurity between 1999 and 2007 till date in Lagos, if he becomes president. He can also apply the same economic policies and the assemblage of brains that transformed Lagos economy from N600 million IGR monthly to an estimated N60 billion monthly IGR at the national level if elected.”

Odubote

Odubote appealed to the Christian communities in the South and North to look beyond the politics of Muslim-Muslim propaganda. He said, “The former governor of Lagos State is not that politically naive such that he would allow religious sentiment to play up if eventually elected president next year. I want to assure Christians in the country that Tinubu has what it takes to address the issue of security in the country.”

MEANWHILE, the APC-USA National Youths Leader said Tinubu should be encouraged to lead the country because of his (Tinubu) support for democracy.
He said, “If you remember very well our country faced unprecedented times when the June 12, 1993 Presidential Election was annulled by the military regime of General Ibrahim Babangida (rtd) but the likes of Tinubu and others staked everything to enable Nigeria returned to democratic rule that we enjoy today.”

He also appealed to all political stakeholders in the South that since critical stakeholders, especially some key northern governors of APC had agreed that the next president must come from the South, the responsibility is now on the south to ensure that Tinubu, who won the APC’s presidential ticket through the support of the north, is backed to win the major contest on February 25, 2023.”

Bello also hinged the support of the Diaspora group for Tinubu on the track records of the national leader as governor of Lagos. He described Tinubu as the most consistent political figure in the Fourth Republic and one who has a network across Nigeria.
Speaking on the factors that would work for Tinubu in the coming election, Bello said, “There’s almost every factor working for him ahead of the other candidates. His level of experience in the public and private sectors is incomparable to other presidential candidates.

“Tinubu managed the biggest and largest city/economy in Africa as governor for eight years and he was able to raise the standard of the state despite several challenges. His capacity to form a formidable team is none compared to other candidates. Bola Ahmed level of selection of brains can be attested to without even holding the highest position in the country. There are facts to buttress Tinubu’s contributions to the development of humanity in the last 30 years. He will do more if elected president.”

Bello also said the fact that APC has more governors and public officials today gives Tinubu an edge over other contestants.”

The APC-USA youths leader also said Tinubu knows what it would take to have a Nigeria that we dream of and we can be proud  to call our home. “Take a look at his manifesto ‘Action Plan’ the former governor of Lagos has greatly stretched his hands across all aisles even to the diaspora. For every great nation is born with a vision and the ability to build despite all odds,” he said.
