Operatives of Ogun Police Command have arrested Yakubu AbdulMumuni, one of the inmates who escaped from Kuje Correctional Centre in Abuja.

Spokesperson for Ogun State Command, Abimbola Oyeyemi, who confirmed the development yesterday, told newsmen that the escapee was recaptured at Ota in Ado Odo-Ota Local Council of the state.

According to him, operatives of the Command attached to the Ota Divisional Headquarters had received a tip-off that the convict was sighted somewhere around Ota.

Oyeyemi said following the hint, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Ota Division, Superintendent of Police (SP), Saleh Dahiru, quickly mobilised his men and moved to the area where the convict was apprehended.

“He confessed to the police that he escaped from Kuje Correctional Centre on July 5, when it was attacked by bandits. He stated further that he was convicted by Kogi State High Court for offence of conspiracy and culpable homicide and sent to Kuje Correctional Centre,” he said.

Oyeyemi said the Commissioner of Police, Lanre Bankole, had ordered the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID) to facilitate the transfer of the convict to the Correctional Centre with immediate effect.

Recall that some terrorists had attacked Kuje prison on July 5 and freed about 600 inmates.
