A manhunt was launched yesterday for the arrest of a fleeing commercial motorcycle rider, also known as okada rider, who allegedly killed a landlord at Agbon, Iyana Church area of Ibadan.

The suspect reportedly took to his heels after killing Asiru Adebayo early yesterday morning, following an argument over the conversion and use of the frontage of the victim’s house by commercial motorcyclists for their businesses.

The Guardian learnt that the deceased was sweeping his compound at about 6:00a.m. when he sighted the suspect and his colleagues with their motorcycles parked in front of the house.

An argument was said to have ensued after the suspect accused the landlord of sweeping the dirt on the floor on him and his mates. Emotions boiled as the suspect allegedly attacked the landlord resulting in a scuffle and the death of the victim.

Sources said the assailant immediately fled the scene before neighbours and eyewitnesses could mobilise and apprehend him.

Reacting to the incident,  Baale of the Agbo Community, Chief Lamidi Salawu, blamed it on the recalcitrant attitude of the Okada riders in trespassing the late Adebayo’s property.

He told The Guardian that the deceased had warned the ‘Okada’ riders in the area to desist from parking in front of his apartment.

Also, the victim’s son, Waheed Adebayo said his father’s sudden death came as a shock as he was hale and hearty without signs of sickness prior to the tragic incident.

Waheed, who said the matter had been reported at the Akobo-General Gas Divisional Police station, urged relevant authorities to ensure justice prevailed on the matter.
