Old students renovate school’s building, others
The dedication and formal handover of the renovated Oba Adesoji Aderemi Administrative Building constructed in 1932 to the school management will take place on Saturday, November 9, during the 40th year reunion celebrations of the old students in the school compound.
Other highlights of the event billed for 12.noon at the school’s hall include the presentation of awards to the best JSS 2 and SSS 2 students in the 2018/2019 promotional examinations and distribution of free exercise books to current students of the school.
Meanwhile, a University lecturer, Dr. Wasiu Odufisan has charged students of Oriwu secondary school, Ikorodu to stay off drugs and cultism.
Odufisan who described addiction as a mental disorder added that family history, peer pressure, and smoking among others are things that can cause it.
The lecturer who was the guest lecturer at the one-week long celebration of the 70th anniversary of Oriwu College also warned parents to show good moral examples, which their children can copy, as children learn more from their actions.
He enjoined parents to be watchful of their children’s activities and pay attention to their whereabouts.
“We can make our community grow by monitoring our children and guarding them aright‚,” he said.
Another speaker, Olanrewaju Hermann gave reasons why some students join cults groups.
According to him, “The chief target of cults are children of the rich, these ones may be suffering from an identity crisis and they want to be identified with renowned groups and so, they are easily carried away by the activities of the cult.”
Hermann called for the introduction of moral education in primary and secondary schools.
