Oluwagbenga Saxophonist shines at Muson Centre

Oluwaseyi Oluwagbenga, is a rising star in Nigeria’s classical music scene,  delivered an exceptional performance at his final year recital, captivating an audience of over 200 guests at the MUSON Centre, Onikan Lagos.

The event held at the Agip Recital Hall, marked a significant milestone in Oluwagbenga’s musical journey, showcasing not only his technical mastery but also his artistic depth on the saxophone.

The young musician expressing gratitude after the performance, described the turnout as overwhelming, noting that it exceeded his expectations and reaffirmed his commitment to excellence.

The recital featured a rich repertoire spanning multiple musical eras. Oluwagbenga performed classical works by renowned composers including Johann Sebastian Bach, Ronald Binge, Jules Demersseman, and a contemporary piece by Grover Washington Jr.

According to him, the selected pieces were carefully chosen to reflect the elegance and technical demands of the Baroque, Romantic, and 20th-century periods, highlighting both etiquette and dexterity in performance.

The evening also featured outstanding collaborative performances from fellow musicians, including saxophonist Omobolanle Akodegbe, pianist Daniel Akogwu, and vocalist Favour Aponove, whose contributions added depth and variety to the recital.

Oluwagbenga paid tribute to his mentor, Imoleayo Balogun, acknowledging the guidance and support that shaped his musical growth, and noting that his teacher expressed pride in his performance.

He also extended appreciation to the MTN Foundation for providing a platform that allowed him to grow, connect with like-minded individuals, and pursue his passion at a higher level.

“This journey hasn’t been easy, but it has been worth it,” he said, reflecting on the dedication and discipline required to reach this stage.

The recital not only celebrated his academic achievement but also signaled the emergence of a promising talent poised to make a lasting impact in the world of music.
