Omoyeni Disu relaunches Mwanga Africa, calls for sustainable entrepreneurship

Nigerian entrepreneur, Omoyeni Disu, has relaunched her fragrance and lifestyle brand, Mwanga Africa, with a renewed focus on building a sustainable African business rooted in creativity, integrity and long-term growth.
‎
‎The relaunch, held recently, marked another chapter in Disu’s entrepreneurial journey and reflected her evolving understanding of what it takes to turn an idea into a lasting business.
‎
‎Mwanga Africa was founded from a deeply personal experience, with Disu seeking to create something associated with happiness after going through one of the darkest periods of her life. The business subsequently developed around scents, flowers and beautiful spaces, guided by the philosophy, “Creating happiness one scent at a time.”
‎
‎Her experience, however, has shown that sustaining a business requires more than creating products that appeal to consumers. Entrepreneurs must navigate operating costs, access to finance, changing consumer behaviour, staffing, infrastructure and the need to remain financially viable.
‎
‎Disu has consequently advocated more honest conversations around entrepreneurship, particularly among African founders, covering issues such as funding, financial literacy, operational challenges, sustainability, mental and emotional wellbeing, ethical practices and long-term business planning.
‎
‎She also seeks to position Mwanga Africa as proudly African yet globally relevant, reflecting her belief that African businesses can compete in wider markets without losing their cultural identity. Her vision is to build a brand that is sophisticated and emotionally meaningful while remaining rooted in its African origins.
‎
‎The broader entrepreneurial landscape underscores the significance of such efforts. Nigeria has an estimated 39.7 million micro, small and medium-sized enterprises, accounting for about 97 per cent of businesses, nearly half of nominal Gross Domestic Product and about 86 per cent of employment, according to World Bank data.
‎
‎Disu’s entrepreneurial philosophy extends beyond building her own company, as she believes successful founders have a responsibility to share knowledge, open doors and create opportunities for the next generation of entrepreneurs.
