Ondo State House of Assembly has been thrown into a fresh crisis following allegations by a lawmaker accusing the Speaker, Olamide Oladiji, of corruption, abuse of office, and an attempt to silence her through threats and an assassination plot.

The lawmaker, representing Ilaje Constituency II, Olawumi Fayemi-Obayelu, alleged that the Speaker was involved in financial malfeasance involving the Ondo State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (OSOPADEC) meant for riverine communities in Ilaje Local Council of the state.

In a statement, yesterday, Fayemi-Obayelu said that her investigation into the matter had led to threats on her life, adding that she escaped death by the whiskers in the early hours of Tuesday.

The allegations came amid reports that the Speaker had considered resigning over an alleged N44 million scandal involving OSOPADEC funds.

However, according to findings, no fewer than 21 members of the Assembly have signed an impeachment notice against the Speaker over alleged misconduct, particularly with the issue of OSOPADEC funds.

Fayemi-Obayelu, while calling on the Speaker to resign or face impeachment, recalled her role in a previous impeachment saga in the state and asserted her commitment to standing against what she termed injustice.

REACTING to the allegations in a telephone interview, the embattled Speaker denied the accusations, particularly those concerning the N44 million scandal and the alleged plot against Fayemi-Obayelu’s life.

Oladiji challenged the lawmaker to provide concrete evidence to substantiate her claims and dismissed the ongoing plot by two-thirds of the Assembly members to impeach him.

IN another development, Aiyedatiwa has approved the re-appointment of Dr Taiwo Fasoranti as the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), bringing him back to the cabinet just months after he resigned to pursue a senatorial ambition.

The appointment, which takes immediate effect, was disclosed in a statement, yesterday, by the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Ebenezer Adeniyan.

According to the statement, Aiyedatiwa charged the reappointed SSG to justify the confidence reposed in him by serving the people of Ondo State with dedication, integrity, and commitment.

The governor, however, urged him to align his efforts with the administration’s “Our Ease” agenda, focusing on effective governance and service delivery.
