Ondo State Police Command has warned residents of the state against raising false alarm in their neighbourhood, saying it endangers the mental health of the people and weakens the morale of security agencies.
The state Commissioner of police, Oyeyemi Oyediran, who issued the warning yesterday, in a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Funmilayo Odunlami, said such culprits would be dealt with according to law.
According to Oyediran, such a negative trend of false alarm in the state must be stopped. He said: “The attention of Ondo State Police Command has been drawn to a negative trend which is fast becoming a habit within the state.
“The issue of raising false alarm in the state calls for caution as the Command will not allow any alarmist to put unnecessary fear in the hearts of the people of the state.
“It is saddening that in less than 24 hours, two false alarms have been raised within the state and this is not good for the mental health of the people, considering the past security event in the state.”
Recall that one Areola Jomiloju, had taken to Twitter on Sunday June 19, stating: “We are in danger at Oke-Obere Ijoka, Akure, Ondo State; Fulani came with guns this night, everybody is in danger now. Pls we need help, we can’t come out now, Fulani is everywhere.”
Lamenting the incident, the police boss said the Command is worried at the rate people sit in their comfort zone and cause the police and the public undue stress.
The PPRO noted that the Commissioner of Police has ordered a thorough investigation into the false alarm. He warned alarmists to desist or face the full wrath of the law as the Command will not fold its hand and allow such evil fester within the state.
