The Ondo State Police Command on Friday disclosed the restriction of vehicular movement as well as that of waterways in the Ondo South Senatorial election ahead of Saturday’s by-election in the state.
While emphasising that the restriction will commence on Saturday from 6:00 am to 6:00 pm, the command maintained that police operatives have been deployed to ensure security during the exercise.
In a statement issued by the police public relations officer in the state, Abayomi Jimoh, those on essential services will be exempted from the restriction.
According to the spokesperson of the command, unauthorised movement or any activity capable of disrupting the electoral process will not be tolerated, stressing that strict enforcement will be ensured.
“The Commissioner of Police further cautions political actors, their supporters, and members of the public against acts of violence, voter intimidation, vote-buying, thuggery, or any other conduct capable of undermining the integrity of the electoral process.
“Anyone found violating electoral laws or engaging in activities likely to cause a breach of peace will be arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the law.
“The CP reassures residents that the Command has intensified intelligence gathering, visibility policing, strategic patrols, and coordinated operations with other security agencies to ensure a secure environment before, during, and after the election.
“This measure is aimed at ensuring a peaceful, orderly, and credible electoral process, as well as safeguarding the lives and property of all residents throughout the election period.
“The Commissioner of Police, Ondo State Command, CP Felix Ohagwu, psc, mnips, mspsp, assures members of the public that adequate security personnel have been strategically deployed across the senatorial district to provide security at polling units, collation centres, electoral offices, and other vulnerable points.
“Security operatives will maintain strict surveillance across land and waterways to prevent any unauthorised movement capable of compromising the electoral process.
“The Command warns that unauthorised movement of vehicles, boats, or any activity capable of disrupting the electoral process will not be tolerated. Security agencies have been directed to enforce the restriction professionally and decisively, while ensuring respect for the rights of law-abiding citizens.
“The Ondo State Police Command remains fully committed to protecting lives and property and ensuring that the Ondo South Senatorial District By-Election is conducted in an atmosphere of peace, safety, and public confidence.”
