One dies in 40-year-old collapsed Lagos building

A female has been confirmed dead in the four stores building that collapsed on 2/4 Oye Sonuga Street, Palmgrove, Mushin, Lagos.

The spokesperson of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Nosa Okunboh confirmed the development.

Okunboh said search and rescue are still ongoing.

“More sophisticated and light-duty equipment has been deployed in addition to the two excavators, crane and others.

Also, the Lagos State Government has directed that investigation should be carried out on the partial incident.

On Friday, September 23, 2022, the Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Omotayo Bamgbose-Martins, visited the site of the four-floor building, which is said to be about 40 years old.

The Commissioner directed that the adjoining building be pulled down immediately to forestall further collapse and for safety reasons.

Efforts are on to rescue those who might have been trapped in the rubble.

The Lagos State Building Control Agency( LASBCA) and the Lagos State Materials Testing Laboratory were also directed to unravel the cause of the collapse. The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) is leading the rescue operations.
