Sources said the accident occurred about 1:00 a.m. when the yet-to-be-identified man in his early 20s rammed into the parked truck.

Residents, who witnessed the accident, told The Guardian that the driver had a head injury and was rushed to a nearby hospital.

They doubted if he would make it alive.

Some residents blamed the accident on reckless driving, while others attributed it to a lack of reflectors.

A resident, Friday Lucky said it was evident that the driver was not under any influence of alcohol, stressing that there were no signs to warn drivers that the truck was parked on the road.

He said: “The accident that happened was caused by indiscriminate parking of trucks on the road. These truck drivers have taken over all the roads, extending to parts of old Port Harcourt Township.”
