One soldier, two sea robbers killed in military, pirates duel

Military operatives reportedly killed two suspected sea robbers, but lost an officer during a fierce battle with pirates at Tuomo Community in Burutu Council of Delta State.

The Guardian learnt that the incident, which happened at about 10:30pm on Monday, threw residents of the community into panic as most of them were said to have fled the town to neighbouring communities.

Sources said the suspected pirates reportedly attacked the military personnel at the checkpoint and wanted to dispossess them of their ammunition, but the soldiers overpowered them.

The surviving pirates fled with their speedboat, after two of them were killed, while one was arrested in the process. When contacted, the Delta State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Bright Edafe, confirmed the incident, but pointed out that he was yet to be briefed on the details.
