The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, Ojaja II, yesterday urged Lagos State Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, to partner with governors in the south west to ensure food security as well as halt produce that get wasted before arriving the market.

Speaking during his visit to Ambode, the Ooni commended the governor on the partnership that brought about the Lake Rice, maintaining that there is need for more collaboration in the area of agriculture, especially cash crops.

The monarch is of the belief that with more of such partnerships, the issue of food security would be taken to another level, which would naturally create jobs for the teaming unemployed youths in the country.

The royal father also commended the governor on how he has been transforming Lagos, imploring him to keep up the good work.

He therefore appealed to other monarchs to support governors in their domain, as governance cannot be left to government alone, since royal fathers are closer to the people.

On his part, Ambode commended the Ooni for promoting unity among the Yoruba people, assuring that he and his government stand for the unity and cohesion in Yoruba land.

Ambode described the Ooni’s visit as historic in the annals of his administration.

Its commendable that someone as young as the current Ooni of Ife is encouraging a governor to be more development-wise as to create jobs for the teeming youth of our country. One major shock that hits one, is the deplorable appearance of Ile-Ife and its environment that is the CRADLE OF THE YORUBA RACE. A drive through Ile-Ife, the domain of the Ooni, “is very embarrassing.” The roads are bad, with yawning craters on its major roads and the streets are dirty and filthy! A drive through Ife from the Ibadan end, through the ancient significant town, reveals dirt and trash on both sides of the roads, passing in front of the famous OAU (formerly Unife)campus, through Lagere, along the hospital road to Atakunmosa and exiting to the main expressway around Ilesa is unpleasant.

Solution: Let the Ooni step out of his airconditioned car, and walk through Ife, let him appreciate sights and sounds and smells of the CRADLE OF YORUBA LAND, and write up his findings, and think of how to improve this reference point to world status in collaboration with Governor Aregbesola who is a man of action. Another intervention is,” let all Yoruba speaking states, in Nigeria and outside the country, donate a certain amount to a fund that will clean up, repair, restore and maintain the CRADLE OF YORUBA LAND, up to a tourist level so that we Yorubas can be proud of our origin, other tribes can see, and want to do the same, and that the world can wish to visit Ile-Ife which would be serving as a major forex earner, and source of employment to our youths. Please, Ooni of Ife, I respect you, but please influence the upgrade of your domain to an enviable one that all of us would be proud of.
